The Azaleas in the Isabella were glorious for all to see. For those of you not in the UK, we have been subject to a very strict COVID19 lockdown and the whole season was lost during 2020, but in 2021 we were able to visit The Isabella once again to see this wonderful annual spectacle. If you are lucky enough to live in London my advice is to visit the Isabella when you can.
ust in case you guys missed this image. Here’s an image of an Antillean crested hummingbird (Orthorhyncus cristatus)
Here’s a fun pic of the twins at Teddington Lock this afternoon. We set off for the lock in earnest and arrived at a very rare moment indeed. The hide tide was matching the level of the river level on the fresh water side of the lock.
I thought you might like to see a new image from Richmond Park from our walk in the last Sunday. The early autumn has just started to turn the leaves brown as the sun peeked through the branches and the young deer were feeding in the shade of the oak.
“The Inverse Square Law” – YouTube Masterclasses – Caveat Emptor – Recently, Iāve been trawling YouTube, looking at the advice that is available to people who are looking to improve their photography. Thereās some great information out there, but thereās also a raft of hollow tutorials, and the usefulness varies greatly.
I stumbled upon a video that was an interview with a well-known, online photo educator. The discussion was interesting and thoughtful. It contained many aspects of photographic technique and kit. In passing, the discussion touched upon the āInverse Square Lawā (ISL), and the importance of understanding it, as it applies to lighting for photography.
I thought that was interesting, as I hadnāt looked at it since college, so I thought Iād brush up, and do some research, by looking at some tutorials on YouTube with fresh eyesā¦
With or without the blind? – a point for discussion – Venetian Blind post production effect… With or without the blind?
Updated:Ā Aug 28, 2019
There’s four hours retouching in adding the Venetian blind.
Despite what I read and viewed online prior to starting the job, it is, in fact, a complex technique, and very difficult to pull off a “photo realistic” blind, at high resolution, to a given brief.
I’m happy with the finished result, as far as the retouching goes, but during the process I began to question it’s very effect on the shot?
I think it may change the narrative a little too much. I was surprised that the presence of the shadows pivoted the shot in a different direction.
What do you think?
Let me know in the comments below…
I am minimising my social media footprint – getting the monkey off my back…
So, I’ve started a blog… So what?
I want to try to put down some thoughts and ideas that may help others. I won’t be calling it a blog. I will uses the term “Articles”.
I have now been shooting for a while and have picked up some valuable experience along with lots of tips and tricks. Those of you that know me, know that I may have an opinion or two, on the subject of photography š
Why am I minimising my social media footprint?
Well, social media platforms are great. In principle, they allow creatives and content makers to share information quickly and effectively, however, they are fraught with many small issues, that when grouped together become a “really big Issue”.
They can impose “community standards” that are frankly ludicrous, and they can impose penalties and bans with impunity.
On balance, I think it’s better for me to have a smaller audience who are actively engaged, rather than to take a broad, scatter gun approach to ideas and discussions that are judged by anonymous administrators.
I will promote this website and my articles using social media, but the content will remain on a platform that I control.
Feel free to comment and engage. I will be moderating the comments, but I will not edit or amend any comments that are negative, as long as they are in good faith, and contribute to the subject at hand.
Note: Inflammatory or abusive language will not be tolerated, and your comments will simply not appear.
Welcome to my new Blog/Vlog – from this point blogs become Articles… Ready, Steady, Go!
Updated: 05.07.2021
So, this is where I’ll post all of my comms from this point. I will reference this blog on Social media. It will be full of info, tips and reviews, and also stuff and nonsense. You can sign up and become a member of the blog. BY doing this you’ll have access to some advanced features.
Update: Well, a lot has happened since the launch, including a global pandemic.
I really hope that you, your families and friends have faired well during this difficult period for the whole world.
I’ve been locked away recreating this new website, as well as hoing my retouching skills.
In fact what you are viewing is the second iteration of the site as it was converted to a different platform over the first 6 months of 2021.
I am slowly adding the historic information…
A lrage preporotion of my career is pre digital so there’s still lots to do.
If you enjoy the image do come back as I will be reviewing and adding more as I time allows.
In spite of the good news that Lockodwn will finally end in the UK soon and the fact that I’m “double Jabbed” I’m baning on restrictions carrying on for quite a few months yet. So I must get on…
Busy, busy, busy.
I hope you like the new blog format (Articles) – Colin
As an affiliate of many brands and services, including Amazon, I often get early notifications of special offers and I post these on the ads & offers panel.
I put the offers here as it means that more people will see them, as I write articles and reviews regularly and this panel appears on every article.
This ad panel is dynamic and will display current ads & offers from around the world. You should see ads from your territory. I hope some of you find the links useful and save some money.
